Lost Foam Casting...

Lost foam casting is a process in which a polystyrene pattern of the component to be produced is surrounded by unbonded sand inside of a flask. The molten metal is poured on the pattern, which then evaporates, allowing the molten metal to take its place and solidify to the exact shape of the polystyrene pattern.

Built in 1995,Vida’s integration of state-of-the-art equipment and systems has made Vida’s ductile iron casting process among the most advanced in the Industry today.

The best applicants are those where the precision of the process enables machining to be eliminated, or where complex shapes not possible by other casting processes can be made using the ability to glue preforms together. The process allows casting designers and producers many opportunities and flexibility that is not possible with conventional casting processes.

Foundry Capabilities

Advantages of Lost Foam Include:
  • No cores
  • No parting line
  • Uses dry unbonded sand
  • No decore
  • Close dimensional tolerances
  • Low draft angles, or reverse draft
  • Component integration
  • More complex shapes
  • Design Freedom
  Machining Capabilities
Vida’s machining capabilities provide customers a comprehensive resource for machining a wide range of castings. In keeping with our full-service strategy we also offer component sub-assembly as well as powder painting, painting, plating and polishing services.

Shop Equipment
Along with a complete range of manual machines, we have one CNC Mazak Machining Center and access to a complete range of CNC Machinery at approximately one-half the rate of U.S. Based shops.

Product Design and Customer Support

We work closely with our customer to achieve an optimal product design. Utilizing in-house AUTOCAD, CADKEY AND SURFCAM and experienced engineers, we can often convert sketches to finished machine drawings.

Calling upon our in-house design engineering experience and the ability of the Lost Foam Process to cast most dimensions to within +/- .010, we are able to eliminate many expensive machining operations while producing a high integrity thin wall casting. This results in significant savings to our customers.

Our customers have realized savings on parts such as gears, housings, valve handles and valve stems to name a few. Our castings have resulted in a fit close enough to eliminate previously required broaching and other machining operations.

Vida has access to foundries worldwide to assist you in obtaining parts and materials that may be beyond our production capabilities. We offer brokerage services throughout Mexico and the Far East.
